SUSS GPA Calculator & Grading System

How the Singapore University of Social Sciences grades full-time and part-time undergraduates — the 5.0 scale, the CGPA formula, honours and basic degree classification — with a calculator preset to the SUSS scale.

Key takeaways

  • SUSS uses the Singapore 5-point GPA: A+/A 5.00, A- 4.50, B+ 4.00, B 3.50, B- 3.00, C+ 2.50, C 2.00, D+ 1.50, D 1.00, F 0.
  • To pass a course you must pass both the continuous assessment and the examinable component — a strong exam cannot rescue failed coursework.
  • Honours degree bands (graduates from July 2024): Highest Distinction 4.50–5.00, Distinction 4.00–4.49, Merit 3.50–3.99, Honours 3.00–3.49, Pass 2.00–2.99.
  • Basic (non-honours) degree: Pass with Merit 3.20–5.00, Pass 2.00–3.19, Fail below 2.00.

CGPA: / 5.0

SUSS courses are typically 5 credit units (2.5 for half courses). Grade points follow the 5-point system SUSS describes on its assessment page; the letter-to-point table itself is the standard Singapore 5.0 table. For multi-semester tracking, transcript upload and target-GPA planning, use the full GPA calculator.

SUSS grading scale

SUSS states that it uses a 5-point GPA system with non-curved, individual-performance grading. The grade points below are the standard Singapore 5.0 table that SUSS transcripts and SUSS-specific calculators use:

GradeGrade pointNotes
A+5.0Same 5.00 as A
A5.0
A-4.5
B+4.0
B3.5
B-3.0
C+2.5
C2.0
D+1.5
D1.0Minimum pass, subject to passing both components
F0.0

SUSS's distinctive rule is that a course has two components — continuous assessment and an examinable component — and you must pass both. A course failed on one component is a fail regardless of the combined mark.

How SUSS calculates CGPA

CGPA is the credit-unit-weighted mean of grade points across all graded courses. Most SUSS courses are 5 credit units, so the weighting matters mainly when half-courses (2.5 CU) are in the mix.

CGPA = Σ (Grade point × Credit units) ÷ Σ Credit units

Worked example

A part-time business student with four full courses and one half course:

CourseCredit unitsGradePointsQuality Pts
Introduction to Human Resource Management5A-4.522.5
Business Statistics5B3.517.5
Principles of Marketing5B+4.020.0
Academic Writing2.5A5.012.5
Ethics in Business5C+2.512.5
Total22.585.0

CGPA = 85.0 ÷ 22.5 = 3.78

CGPA 3.78 — an Honours (Merit) standing, and comfortably above the 3.20 Pass with Merit line for a basic degree.

SUSS degree classification

SUSS publishes two sets of bands for students graduating from July 2024 onwards:

Dean's List and progression at SUSS

SUSS does not publish a university-wide Dean's List GPA or an academic-probation trigger on its public site; its assessment page says only that students must maintain satisfactory progress to continue. If you need those thresholds, ask your programme office — do not assume the NUS/NTU 2.00 rule applies.

Using your SUSS GPA

SUSS honours bands mirror the other 5.0-scale universities, so a SUSS Highest Distinction is read the same way as an NUS or NTU one. For overseas applications there is no official conversion to the US 4.0 scale; state your CGPA out of 5.0 and your classification, and see the Singapore GPA overview for the unofficial approximations.

SUSS GPA FAQ

What is a good GPA at SUSS?

For an honours degree, 4.00 and above is Distinction and 4.50 and above is Highest Distinction. For a basic degree, 3.20 and above earns Pass with Merit.

Can I pass a SUSS course if I fail the exam but score well on assignments?

No. SUSS requires a pass in both the continuous assessment and the examinable component; failing either fails the course.

Is SUSS GPA the same scale as NUS?

Yes — a 5.0 scale with identical honours bands. See the NUS GPA guide for how the S/U option differs.

What is the difference between an honours and a basic degree at SUSS?

Honours degrees are classified into Highest Distinction, Distinction, Merit, Honours and Pass. Basic degrees have just Pass with Merit (3.20+) and Pass (2.00–3.19).
