RP grading scale

Republic Polytechnic grades letter-graded modules on the standard polytechnic 4.0 scale. RP's public site does not reproduce the table; the points below are the ones shown on RP Statements of Results and used by every RP-specific calculator, and they match the SP/NP/NYP/TP scales:

Modules on a Pass/Fail scheme carry no grade points. RP's official Academic Matters page confirms that for those modules the SDCL component may be left out of 1-credit courses.

How RP calculates cGPA

RP's module grade is unusual: the letter grade is computed from three components — CA, FA and SDCL — rather than one exam. Once each module has a letter grade, the cumulative GPA is the familiar credit-weighted average.

cGPA = Σ (Grade point × Credits) ÷ Σ Credits

Worked example

A Year 1 student with five letter-graded modules:

cGPA = 54.0 ÷ 16 = 3.38

cGPA 3.38. Because each RP module grade already blends CA, FA and SDCL, a weak final assessment can still land a B if continuous work was strong.

Diploma with Merit and awards at RP

RP references Diploma with Merit and academic awards on its graduation pages, but the qualifying cGPA and cohort percentile are published only in the student handbook (SharePoint, login required). Other polytechnics set Diploma with Merit at cGPA 3.0–3.5 plus a top-10% finish; assume RP is in the same range and verify in the handbook.

Progressing from RP to university

NUS and NTU publish Indicative Grade Profiles showing the 10th–90th percentile GPA of admitted polytechnic applicants — NTU AY2025-26: Computer Science 3.78–3.98, Business 3.65–3.91. How is the RP module grade calculated?

From three components — Continuous Assessment (CA), Final Assessment (FA) and Self-Directed & Collaborative Learning (SDCL) — all of which count toward the module grade in letter-graded modules.

Does RP have a distinction grade?

RP's public pages do not list a separate distinction grade like SP's DIST or TP's Z; A (4.0) is the top letter grade shown on RP statements of results.

What is a good GPA at Republic Poly?

For local university admission the NUS/NTU indicative profiles for competitive courses fall between roughly 3.6 and 3.99. RP's own award thresholds are in the student handbook.

Where can I see my official RP GPA?

On the Statement of Results (SOR), which RP issues with all endorsed modules and grades and which is accepted for university applications.
