SIT grading scale

SIT's Academic Bulletin sets out the grade points for students from AY2026 onwards:

Non-letter notations — PASS/FAIL, IC (Incomplete, competency modules), IP (In Progress), EX (Exempted), TC (Credit Transfer), ABS (Absent with valid reason) and W (Withdrawn after add/drop) — carry no grade points and are excluded from the CGPA.

How SIT calculates CGPA

SIT runs on trimesters. The trimester GPA and the cumulative GPA use the same credit-weighted formula; only letter-graded components count.

CGPA = Σ (Grade point × Credits) ÷ Σ Credits

Worked example

A Trimester 1 engineering student with five letter-graded modules:

SIT classification of degree

For SIT and joint-degree programmes, the final CGPA determines the classification:

Honours with Merit	3.50 – 3.99
Honours	3.00 – 3.49
Pass	2.00 – 2.99

Provost's List

SIT's equivalent of the Dean's List. To qualify in a trimester you need a trimester GPA of at least 4.50, a finish in the top 2% of your cluster cohort, and at least 18 letter-graded credits that trimester. The 2% bar is tighter than the 5% used by NUS and NTU.

Academic standing at SIT

Good standing requires a CGPA of at least 2.00 every trimester. One trimester below 2.00 brings an Academic Warning; a second consecutive trimester below 2.00 after a warning means Academic Probation; a third consecutive trimester below 2.00 (or finishing the final trimester below 2.00) results in Academic Termination.

What is a good GPA at SIT?

A CGPA of 4.00 earns Honours with Distinction and 4.50 Honours with Highest Distinction. The Provost's List requires a 4.50 trimester GPA and a top-2% finish.

Is SIT on the same GPA scale as NUS and NTU?

Yes — the same 5.0 scale and the same five classification bands, with the labels "Honours with Distinction" rather than "Honours (Distinction)". See the NUS and NTU guides for the pass/fail options those universities add.

Does a Pass/Fail module count in the SIT CGPA?

No. Only letter-graded components enter the CGPA; PASS/FAIL, IC, IP, EX, TC, ABS and W are all excluded.

What GPA do polytechnic graduates need for SIT?

SIT admits mainly polytechnic graduates and publishes indicative profiles per programme rather than cut-offs. Use the poly-to-university profiles on the Singapore GPA overview as a benchmark and check the SIT programme page for your course.
