NYP grading scale

NYP's assessment regulations map percentage marks to grades and grade points as follows:

B+	3.5	75 – 79%
B	3.0	70 – 74%
C+	2.5	65 – 69%
C	2.0	60 – 64%
D+	1.5	55 – 59%
D	1.0	50 – 54%
NGP	1.0	Non-graded pass
F	0.0	Below 50%

Only learning units with grade points enter the GPA. An F is 0 points but its credits stay in the denominator, so a fail hurts more than a low pass.

How NYP calculates GPA

NYP's GPA is cumulative and credit-weighted: every graded learning unit from every semester is pooled. Repeating a failed core unit adds a second attempt to the record.

GPA = Σ (Grade point × Credits) ÷ Σ Credits

Worked example

A Year 1 IT student with five graded learning units:

GPA = 57.5 ÷ 17 = 3.38

GPA 3.38. DIST and A are both 4.0, so the distinction changes the transcript label, not the number.

NYP academic awards

Two awards in the NYP regulations depend on GPA standing:

Award	Requirement
Director's List	Top 15% of the cohort that semester; full study load (≥ 80% if credit transfer granted); no failed modules that semester
Diploma with Merit	Top 10% of the graduating cohort; no failed modules throughout the course

NYP GPA results release

NYP publishes semester results through the student portal and requires appeals within three working days of release. Exact release dates are announced each semester rather than fixed in the regulations, so check the portal calendar rather than relying on last year's date.

Failed and repeated modules at NYP

A failed core learning unit must be repeated. A failed elective may be repeated or replaced, with a maximum of two repeats per elective. A GPA below 0.8 for two consecutive semesters, or failing a core unit again after repeating it, results in dismissal from the course.

What is a good GPA at NYP?

Director's List is a top-15% finish for the semester and Diploma with Merit a top-10% finish at graduation — both also require no failed modules. For NUS/NTU admission, indicative profiles of admitted poly graduates for competitive courses sit around 3.6 to 3.99.

Does NGP count in the NYP GPA?

Yes. NYP assigns a Non-Graded Pass 1.0 grade points, so it is included in the calculation and lowers a high GPA.

How does NYP calculate GPA with a failed module?

The F counts as 0 grade points but its credits stay in the total credit value, so it drags the GPA down until you pass the repeat — and the failed attempt remains on the transcript.

When are NYP GPA results released?

NYP announces the date each semester on the student portal; the regulations only fix the appeal window (three working days after release).
